Cancellation Policy
-
By booking a treatment at Muscle Maintenance Massage you are agreeing to our cancellation policy: 48 hours notice is required when cancelling an appointment. If you cancel within this time, you will be charged 90% of the service fee. However, if the slot is filled by another client, you will not be charged the fee. This policy is in place to protect the business against loss of earnings at short notice. To cancel or ammend a booking, please email musclemaintenanceportobello@gmail.com or call/message us via the information provided on the CONTACT page.

-
Late arrival: If you arrive late, your treatment may be shortened to accommodate subsequent bookings. Upon late arrival, you will be responsible for payment of the full service scheduled. Please aim to arrive 5 minutes before your treatment.
Sickness Policy
Please reschedule your appointment as soon as you are aware of an infectious or contagious condition. If you arrive for your appointment with the following symptoms, you will kindly be asked to reschedule your treatment.

Fever or chills
Vomiting or diarrhea
Contagious skin disorders
Sore throat or cough
Other symptoms of covid or influenza (flu)
Please note: If you are cancelling your appointment within the 24 hour notice period due to illness, the cancellation fee may be waived. It is not advised to have massage therapy if feeling unwell, therefore it will be more beneficial for both therapist and client if you return when you are feeling better.
Booking and Payment
Upon booking you will receive a confirmation email with your appointment details and a link to our Client Intake Form. Please fill this out at your earliest convenience and return it by pressing the 'Submit' button at the bottom of the form. It is the client's responsibility to provide complete and accurate information. Failure to do so may result in cancellation of your booking or an inability of the therapist to provide the treatment as requested. A member of the team will be available through email or messaging if you have any questions about this.

You will also receive a reminder email 24 hours before your appointment and a courtesy email a few days after your treatment where you will be able to book should you wish to do so. If you have opted out of our mailing list, you will not receive any more information from us beyond the thank you email unless you choose to book in again.

When booking you can choose to pay online using the Wix website payment system or you can opt to 'Pay in Person'. Either card or cash will be accepted at your appointment. If paying with cash, please bring the correct amount as it may not be possible for us to give change because we do not keep money on the premises.

If you are a returning client, you will still be given the option to fill out the Client Intake Form. However, you will be able to skip through the health related questions provided none of your information has changed in the time since your last treatment. It is important that you keep your information up to date. If you have had any new health issues, new diagnosis, medication etc please fill out the form again. If you have had no changes, you will still be required to agree to the policies and client agreements before submitting your Repeat Client Form.
Gift Voucher Policies
Gift vouchers are redeemable against any treatment. E-vouchers will be sent via email but, if requested, gift cards can be posted free of charge on receipt of payment. They will be posted within 48 hours. To request a posted voucher or for any other enquiries please email musclemaintenanceportobello@gmail.com.

Gift vouchers are valid for 6 months from date of purchase. Gift vouchers are non-refundable and cannot be redeemed for cash. Unused values can not be refunded or consolidated to a new voucher. Please note that vouchers cannot be used as payment to purchase other vouchers. Gift vouchers are non-transferable. If cancellation occurs within 24 hours or in the case that the recipient does not show for their appointment, the voucher will be deemed serviced and cancelled. The recipient is responsible for observing expiry date. No liability will be accepted for the replacement or refund of lost stolen or destroyed vouchers.

To redeem your Evoucher there is an option to 'Redeem a gift card' on the payment page where you can enter your unique code. If the price of the sale is worth more than the value of the gift card, you can pay for the remaining cost using your regular payment methods. Alternatively, if you have received a physical gift card you can select 'Pay in Person' when booking, write 'Gift Card' in the messages section and bring your voucher with you to your appointment. Any additional costs towards a longer treatment can be paid by cash or card at your appointment.
Please feel free to email musclemaintenanceportobello@gmail.com with any questions.

We are currently offering discount packages of 3 or 6 sessions for 60, 75 and 90 minute treatments. You can buy a package directly by clicking on 'Packages Available' on the Bookings Page or you can 'Pay with a Plan' at the checkout.

To redeem your package sessions please log in on the website. Once logged in, you can book as normal and select your package as 'Payment Option' at the checkout. You can manage appointments in the 'My Bookings' section in your account. Upon booking your massage session, you will receive a confirmation email and a reminder the day before your appointment.

All massage sessions must be taken within the specified time frame - 6 months for 3 session packages, 12 months for 6 session packages. The session plan is non-refundable outwith this time either in part or in full. It is the client's responsibility to book in their massage sessions within the time frame. We advise that the client book in all sessions as soon as possible to ensure they can be taken within the time limit and to avoid missing out due to our calendar being full.

Package Cancellation Policy:
By booking a treatment at Muscle Maintenance Massage you are agreeing to our cancellation policy: 48 hours notice is required when cancelling an appointment. If you cancel within 48 hours, you will lose your session from the plan. Missed sessions are non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled if cancelled within 48 hours notice. You will be able to attend any remaining sessions booked in for your plan. Rescheduling outwith 48 hours is no problem, please try to do this at the earliest opportunity once you know you need to change your time. This allows your therapist to fill the slot and avoid loss of earnings. Sessions can be rescheduled when logged into your membership on the website. Please email with any questions.

NOTE OF INTEREST: For regular clients, I am happy to offer the above deal as a rolling discount. This means booking either 3 or 6 sessions into the diary but paying the discounted rate at each session rather than upfront on the website. The best way to do this is to make your bookings on the website and select Pay in Person, please book in either 3 or 6 appointments at once so I know which discount to apply. I will then email you to confirm the discounted rate. Don't worry if you are unsure of dates and think you may need to change them down the line, as long as you give me 48hours notice to change the booking, this will be no problem. Email or message me with any questions. Please note: This offer will not be possible with less than 3 or 6 bookings.

If it was not possible to provide the booked service at the time requested due to Force Majeure, Muscle Maintenance Massage will try to reschedule your appointment for another time. What to Expect
Upon booking, you will receive a Client Intake Form. Please fill this out at your earliest convenience and return it by pressing the 'Submit' button at the bottom of the form. You will also receive a reminder email 24 hours before your appointment.

Entry is through MatchaMind Edinburgh located at 19 Brighton Place. Your massage therapist will meet you in the shop to take you back into the treatment room. If they are with a client please take a seat in the waiting area in the front window of the shop.

A pre-treatment consultation will be had to determine what you would like to achieve from the session and to discuss any muscle complaints or problematic areas requiring more attention. This allows the therapist to tailor each treatment to your specific needs on the day. It will also allow for a treatment plan to be created for regular sessions if required.

A Swedish Massage therapy session usually lasts between 60-90 minutes. It will involve a full body routine where the therapist will work on most of the major muscle groups of the body. If the client has specific needs, the therapist can concentrate on certain areas of the body. Pressure can be adjusted to suit the client’s preference or needs. If there are certain areas the client would like to avoid, this will be accommodated.

Oil or massage wax is used on the skin for lubrication to allow for manipulation of the muscles. We generally use grapeseed oil which is hypoallergenic and will occasionally use other items such as arnica oil to aid with rehabilitation if required. If necessary, we will do a patch test at the beginning of each treatment to rule out allergies or reactions. If you would like to request that a different oil is used, we will be happy to accommodate this but will need at least 48 hours notice.

The client's modesty is protected at all times with the use of towels draped to cover parts of the body except those uncovered to receive treatment. At no point will genitalia or breast tissue be exposed.

After your treatment, payment can be made by cash or card if it has not already been taken at the time of booking. We can then discuss the treatment and you will be able to book in for another treatment if you should wish to do so.
Aftercare

-
Stay Hydrated - Drinking water helps to eliminate toxins and replace lost fluids. It can promote muscle elasticity, in turn reducing soreness. It will also help to oxygenate cells to keep the metabolism functioning effectively. It's best to drink room temperature water as it’s absorbed easily and therefore hydrates the body quicker than cold water.

-
Ice & Heat – If you are feeling tender, ice and heat on a 20 minute rotation can aid rehabilitation. A heat pack expands the blood vessels encouraging blood flow to the area and oxygen to the muscles allowing them to relax and repair. Ice reduces inflammation by constricting blood vessels and therefore shifting blood away from the damaged area.

-
Avoid alcohol & caffeine – They can cause dehydration and impede water absorption. Try to avoid for 24-48 hours.

-
Gentle stretches or yoga - This can help to ease muscle tension and promote mobility.

-
Eat light meals – Eating nutrient rich food will catalyse muscle recovery. It’s best to stick to light meals because eating a lot of food will divert blood to the digestive system. As it takes energy to digest food, this may leave you feeling more tired and lethargic.

-
Rest – avoid strenuous activity for 24-48hrs. Taking a bath can encourage relaxation and increase circulation. Adding epsom salts can help to reduce inflammation, ease cramps or muscle pain.

Some people may experience other symptoms after a massage such as headache, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, increased urination or achy muscles. This is perfectly normal and nothing to be worried about. It is simply part of the healing and detoxification process. Symptoms should subside within 24-48 hours. If you are concerned by your symptoms in anyway please reach out to us or contact your GP for further advice.
